«Introduction to the knee
painful patellofemoral (inflammation of the patellar tendon at the level of its insertion in the point of the tibia).
WHEN WE KNEEL, or after a trauma to the front of the knee: especially if a significant swelling appears, it could be bursitis in the knee.
ONLY WHEN WE DO PHYSICAL ACTIVITY or certain movements: if a young patient, without recent trauma, it is probably a "simple" tendonitis.
SUDDEN DURING AN EXERCISE OR A BRUSH MOVEMENT: it could be a meniscal tear, if the subject is elderly it can also occur due to trivial efforts (standing up from a squatting position).
WHEN WE STAND FOR A LONG TIME, WE WALK, WE MAKE THE STAIRS: especially if the subject is over 50 years old and you notice a certain joint deformity, the pain is almost certainly due to arthrosis.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER A TRAUMA: possible meniscal involvement and one or more ligaments.
bodilyATTENTION: physical activity can also be harmful, especially when one exaggerates or abruptly passes from a sedentary lifestyle to an intense sporting activity. To prevent your knee from paying the consequences, first ask your doctor for an opinion, then evaluate the possibility of being followed by a qualified personal trainer, at least during the first sessions.
WHAT IF I HAVE ARTHROSIS?
In the presence of arthrosis it is advisable to cycle, since the muscle works anyway but the knee is unloaded; in this case the joint does not have to bear all the body weight, as happens for example during dancing, walking and especially running (activities which are instead very useful in the presence of non-advanced osteoporosis).
Swimming and water activities are also favorable exercises as they make the movements more natural and less stressful for the knee (with the exception of "breaststroke" swimming which causes greater intra-articular stresses).
they have the function of lubricating a "worn out joint". This substance in fact reduces pain and hinders cartilage deterioration, delaying the progression of "arthrosis while waiting for surgery.
Other therapies such as ultrasound, TENS, tecar therapy, laser therapy etc. they should be evaluated according to the type and stage of the disease.
