Game system definition: position of the players on the pitch in a static situation; the players occupy the defensive zone, that of the midfield and the attack.
Definition of game module: dynamic implementation of the system; tasks and functions that the player has to perform.
EXAMPLES OF GAME SYSTEMS
4-4-2.
The defense is made up of two central and two external bands. One of the central players has the task of commanding the simultaneous advancement of the defense line. The defense line can be organized with an external ball, with one or two lines of coverage and with a central ball. In the latter case, the coverage is funnel-shaped.
The midfielders can be deployed in a line or in a diamond shape, with one of the two central players further back and the other deployed behind the strikers.
5-3-2.
In the case of the 5-3-2 with zone marking, the defenders mark the attacking opponents in their own zones of competence. Defensive wielders can become quarter-midfielders (in ball possession phase), or both support midfield.
In the defense with mixed marking, in the central area, the scorers take over the opponent's strikers. The marking can be fixed or with marker exchanges in its own half of the field (center right or center left). The central defense has the function of classic free, always slightly detached from the defenders who must mark. The defensive wielders must take over any winger and attack the flanks when in possession of the ball.
The midfielders can be arranged with the central player further back or more advanced than their team mates. The choice results in greater coverage or greater offensive capabilities.
The forwards must help their midfielders on the outside.
3-4-3 defense with zone marking
With only three players on defense there is a larger defensive field area to manage, but the tasks remain the same as for the 4-man defense.
In the coverage phase, the defense of the central sector is helped by external midfielders or by a central midfield that fits on the defense line.
The midfielders are deployed as in the 4-4-2 midfield.
The attackers, in turn, must help the midfielders in the non-possession phase.
