It is not only those who go on a multi-day trek, perhaps taking the path of one of the famous paths, who have to pay attention to what it leads, but every serious hiker.
You need specific technical clothing for trekking that makes hiking in the woods and undergrowth, mountains, pleasant and safe. The clothing for summer and winter trekking is similar, the materials and, sometimes, the length of sleeves and pants change, but the substance remains the same. Once the list of essentials for trekking clothing has been made, all that remains is to adapt it at the turn of the season.
If, as mentioned, there are real "staples" of trekking clothing, it is possible to enrich this basic luggage with a series of accessories, designed for the specific characteristics of a specific excursion or for our needs or, again, for the particular season in which we are preparing to undertake the trekking.
Many of these garments can also be useful for camping life.
This is an essential list that hints at all the clothing the trekker should use. We thought of extending it to some useful accessories when tackling a mountain route with a small via ferrata, or exposed to the possible fall of some boulders (an event not at all infrequent).
. As you can guess from this very brief overview, the models on the market are really many. We need to find the one that best suits our needs, the characteristics of the excursion and also the temperatures that we will face.
The Bermuda model, without any particular technical characteristics, is suitable only for short and simple walks, or for moments of rest after a more demanding walk. Surely for a real trekking it is better to opt for trousers in technical and breathable fabric. Long or short pants? This question is more complex than it seems and the season in which we face the trek is not enough to give an answer.
Although a winter trek calls for long pants, there are hikers who still prefer the Bermuda / shorts model with knee-high socks. At the same time, the choice of short trousers in spring-summer is not obvious, because the long trousers (clearly of a lighter fabric) better protect the legs and, especially if we find ourselves walking paths along which the low vegetation is rich, it is possible avoid scratches and irritation due to plants in areas where the boot and sock do not reach. Not only that, thunderstorms and cold weather are not uncommon in the mountains, so you can opt for long trousers to feel more protected.
You can also opt for the middle way, the so-called "modular pants" or "convertible". What is it? And that trousers in which the lower part, generally just above the knee, can be detached thanks to a zip. Undoubtedly this is a convenient solution, but pay attention to maintenance: if the two parts are used detached for too long, the shorts will tend to discolor and change color more quickly than the part that covers the calves and ankles. The result? A truly clownish effect when you put them back on. That's why, even if you only use the shorts version, you should always subject the two parts to the same number of washes, so the color will change more or less at the same pace.
At the time of purchase, remember that the trekking pants must be comfortable, but also close enough to the legs so as not to constitute a hindrance by getting entangled in branches, brambles, rocks. It may be useful to buy a trekking pants with belt, both because it allows you to adjust the size adapting it more to the body, both because the case for a small knife, camera etc. can be inserted along the belt.

Why is it important to wear a technical fabric shirt? Because during the trekking you sweat, and a lot, and therefore you have to protect yourself from the gusts of wind and cold, which can annoy the muscles, but also the stomach, not to mention that walking with the sensation of frozen sweat on the body is really unpleasant. The technical t-shirts, on the other hand, are designed to let the skin breathe, perspire sweat and dry quickly.
In summer we will undoubtedly choose a trekking shirt in breathable fabric, while in winter we will be able to opt for thermal underwear and thermal shirt, guaranteeing additional protection from the cold.
