Currently, there are two types of birth control pills: the combination pill and the minipill.
Both of the above types are hormonal in content, but while the combination pill contains a synthetic version of both estrogen and progesterone, the minipill contains only a synthetic version of progesterone.

Medicinal preparation with hormonal content, the contraceptive pill is a reversible contraceptive solution (therefore, its interruption leads to the restoration of the ability to conceive).
Currently, there are two main types of birth control pills:
- The combined birth control pill, also known as the combined pill or estrogen-progestogen pill;
- The minipill or progestin pill.
For the avoidance of doubt, it should be remembered that the birth control pill is different from the so-called morning after pill. Although the method of administration is the same, in fact, the morning after pill is an emergency contraceptive method, effective only in the first hours following unprotected sexual intercourse.
