More frequent from the 3rd-4th month of life, colds in newborns are the result of a "viral infection. Among the viruses that can cause it, the same viruses that induce colds in adults stand out, namely: Rhinovirus, Coronavirus, Adenovirus, influenza viruses, parainfluenza viruses etc.
Colds in infants are responsible for some typical symptoms, which are: runny nose, nasal congestion, fever, sneezing, cough, decreased appetite and difficulty sleeping.
For its diagnosis, a physical examination and anamnesis are sufficient.
Except in special cases, colds in newborns do not require the use of drugs, but only and exclusively the use of some simple home remedies, such as rest, nasal washes, periodic hydration and humidification of the air.
Colds in infants are not a serious condition, but excessive neglect in its management can lead to complications, some of which are very dangerous.
An example of virus-borne infection, a cold in newborns is not a particularly clinically relevant condition; however, it still requires certain attention and appropriate care, as it has the potential to lead to very serious complications.
