Generality
Feet are defined as flat when they have a lower than normal or completely absent medial arch.
Consequently, those who suffer from this anatomical alteration have feet whose central internal part rests completely, or almost, on the ground.
Flat feet can be a congenital or acquired condition.
When present, the most common symptoms are: foot pain, ankle pain, knee pain and over pronation.
For a correct diagnosis, a physical examination and anamnesis are very often sufficient.
Treatment depends on the severity of the symptoms: for less severe cases, conservative therapy may suffice; for more severe cases, surgery is required.
