Generality
Zopiclone is a sedative hypnotic drug belonging to the class of so-called "Z drugs" (or "Z drugs"). It is considered a benzodiazepine-like drug, as it works in a similar way to benzodiazepines.

Zopiclone is marketed in racemic form; the activity of the drug, however, is due only to the S-enantiomer. In fact, the pure S-enantiomer is marketed in the United States under the name of Eszopiclone.
