Although it constitutes a significant discomfort for those who suffer from it, dysphagia itself is not considered a disease in the strict sense.
That said, with regard to the possible consequences it could have on health (see below), signs and symptoms of dysphagia are still included in the "ICD-10 (International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems).
Etymology of the term
The noun "dysphagia" comes from the Greek "dys", meaning" bad "or" messy ", and the root"phag- "which means" to eat ".

Motor causes of dysphagia
Functional impairment of systemic pathologies (polymyositis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or scleroderma) or esophageal (achalasia, diffuse esophageal spasm, idiopathic dyskinesias of the esophagus).
Iatrogenic causes
The use of opioids and / or opioid drugs, or other therapies, can exacerbate or even cause dysphagia (iatrogenic causes).
