Arginine aspartate - dipeptide consisting of arginine and aspartate. It is therefore also a source of aspartate, a non-essential amino acid, which is part of the urea cycle as a precursor of arginine and in the process of gluconeogenesis. Arginine is a conditionally essential amino acid, as although our body is able to synthesize it starting from ornithine and citrulline, it is not always possible - as in the case of children - to satisfy its needs.
It is then introduced through the diet, being abundant in peanuts, meats and legumes. After ingestion it is absorbed in the intestine and distributed in various tissues, with particular importance in the liver, where it allows the urea cycle to advance, with consequent detoxification from ammonia derived from the common process of amino acid oxidation.
Arginine is also involved in numerous other biological reactions and, through the formation of numerous metabolites, plays an important role in the regulation of the immune response, cell replication, hormonal response and protein synthesis.
For this reason, arginine has found various applications in the therapeutic field, supported by various studies, and in the sports field.
In fact, in common sports practice, arginine-based supplements are used to stimulate the synthesis of nitric oxide, thus improving muscle vascularization and the consequent supply of oxygen and nutrients, and to increase the synthesis of creatine and enhance the release of GH.
As can be seen later in the text, there is an important debate regarding the aforementioned effects of arginine.
Ornithine Alpha Keto Glutarate (OKG): synthetic product consisting of the union of two ornithine molecules through an alpha keto-glutarate bridge.
Ornithine, produced in our organism following the action of the arginase enzyme that splits arginine into urea, represents the starting stage of the urea cycle, thus returning on one hand to the detoxification of amino residues derived from oxidation amino acids, and on the other in the regeneration of arginine.
The effects related to supplementation with this molecule are not yet well documented, and mainly oriented in supporting protein synthesis in models and patients subjected to burns and trauma. Furthermore, some studies show the ability of this molecule to support the production of nitric oxide (although the mechanism is still unknown), and to increase insulin secretion in a glucose-dependent manner (probably due to the gluconeogenic role of alpha keto -glutarate). However, the role established by several studies is to increase the synthesis of arginine, proline and polyamines, facilitating muscle recovery from severe trauma such as fractures and burns. There are no studies in the literature relating to the application of OKG in sports.
Vitamin B6: introduced in the form of pyridoxine, very present in meat, wholemeal products, liver, fish, egg white, corn, milk, fruit, green vegetables, brewer's yeast and germ oil of wheat, pyridoxine is absorbed in the intestine and from there it reaches the liver where it is stored.
Its biological activity is carried out in the phosphorylated form, pyridoxal phosphate, and is part of the amino acid metabolism, lipid metabolism, the synthesis of various neutransmitters, glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis, in the synthesis of nucleotides and in the detoxification of homocysteine.
Its supplementation has been successfully carried out proving effective in improving cognitive, metabolic and immune abilities.
Its daily requirement is around 1 / 1.5 mg, but even in this case the cases of deficiency are very rare. Massive doses of this vitamin (greater than 50 mg / day) can cause peripheral neuropathies.
Uses in sports - GH layer - KEFORMA
Like the supplements described in this section, the results sought by its use in sports are related to the "increase in lean mass, the" increase in GH secretion, the improvement of athletic performance.
Product features Strato GH - KEFORMA
The product in question associates vitamin B6 and OKG with arginine. Surely one of the objectives of this synergy is to support the correct amino acid metabolism, increasing protein synthesis and regularizing ammonia detoxification.
Definitely, as can be easily deduced from the name, this supplement also aims at increasing the secretion of growth hormone, but the data obtained from the scientific world seem somewhat contradictory.
Rationale for use - GH layer - KEFORMA
Although a recent study has shown an increase in GH in 9 athletes subjected to supplementation for three weeks of arginine and ornithine, the scientific world seems to agree on the "absence of the" stimulatory effect on GH secretion, both by "ornithine and" arginine, in healthy and exercised individuals.
Common practice, but nevertheless erroneous, is to generalize the results obtained on guinea pigs or on individuals suffering from particular pathologies or on intravenous administrations at very high concentrations, extending them to the sports world. This was done with the OKG, for which no studies on healthy individuals and / or athletes are yet documented.
Several studies, on the other hand, seem to agree on the increase of muscle energy capacity, on preserving amino acids from oxidation and on improving athletic performance, all benefits that would derive from arginine supplementation especially if associated with BCAAs and creatine.
Method of use recommended by the company
Swallow 4 capsules a day.
Method of use in sports - Layer GH - KEFORMA
Arginine: the various studies carried out on athletes use quite varied dosages, from 2 to 8 g per day (best results obtained at dosages of 3 g / day), to improve physical performance and reduce the feeling of fatigue.
The dosages used to increase GH secretion are generally higher and can even reach up to 15 grams per day, a dose at which side effects can occur.
Administration on an empty stomach is preferred, to avoid competitive phenomena in intestinal absorption.
Ornithine: studies showing positive effects in reducing lactate following physical exercise, consequently also the feeling of fatigue, have used dosages around 2 gr / day for at least 7 days.
Side effects GH - KEFORMA layer
The most common side effects, recorded at large doses, are vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramps at doses above 9 grams per day.
Massive doses, generally greater than 30 g, can cause nephrotoxicity, hypotension and headaches.
Ornithine: doses higher than 10/20 g can cause gastrointestinal disorders.
The data relating to the OKG are not sufficient.
Precautions for use Strato GH - KEFORMA
The product is contraindicated in cases of renal or hepatic pathology, cardiovascular disease and / or hypertension, during pregnancy, during lactation and under the age of 12 and adolescents not yet formed.
