THERAPEUTIC GROUP: Spasmolytics / drugs for intestinal function disorders
Indications SPASMEX ® Phloroglucine dihydrate
SPASMEX ® is indicated in the symptomatic treatment of spastic pain in the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal, urogenital and biliary tract.
Mechanism of action SPASMEX ® Phloroglucine dihydrate
SPASMEX ® characterized by a very short plasma half-life (15 minutes), once absorbed tends to concentrate mainly in the gastrointestinal, urogenital and biliary tracts, where it will carry out its therapeutic action.
The efficacy of SPASMEX ® in the treatment of spasm is linked to the presence of the active principle phloroglucin / phloroglucinol, characterized by a direct spasmolytic activity against the smooth muscle cells of the aforementioned anatomical areas. The biological mechanism underlying this property provides for the inhibition of the enzyme catechol-o-methyl-transferase, which is important in the normal metabolism of catecholamines, responsible for the spasm.
