These points typically consist of the abdomen and waist for men, and the buttocks, hips and thighs for women.
In the "ambit of bodybuilding and especially of amateur physical culture, the belief still persists that through training, diet and supplementation, it is possible to thin one fatty tissue rather than another.
After all, who would not like to see fat diminish more quickly in these areas than in others, in order to standardize the arrangement of deposits with consequent aesthetic benefits? More or less all, with the exception of a few lucky young people.
In this article we will try to better understand if, and to what extent, it is really possible to lose weight where we want without penalizing the harmoniousness of the body as a whole; for women this would mean maintaining fullness of the breast and for men (often but not always) that of the buttocks.
Before we go into detail, let's briefly summarize why different organisms do not accumulate fat in the same way throughout the body surface.
and especially glucose, the pancreas is stimulated to secrete more insulin.
A chronic condition of hyperinsulinemia (due to impaired glucose tolerance and insulin resistance), which, however, must remain in the circulation for a long time to be defined as such, favors the storage of fat inside the abdomen (peritoneal and visceral) and in the subcutaneous panniculus of the same In this regard, many think that excessive levels of circulating cortisol - not to be confused with hypercortisolism, a true and serious disease - tend to increase blood sugar and therefore, albeit temporarily, to emphasize hyperinsulinemia with all that It follows that it is certainly acceptable that a hypothetical similar mechanism can slow down weight loss, but not everyone agrees on the extent of this negative effect. Even assuming a transient increase in blood sugar due to cortisol secretion, the opposite balance mechanism is to be taken for granted. Otherwise, one could become type 2 diabetic even "just by stressing"; but this does not happen (with the exception of genetically predisposed subjects), except with inappropriate eating habits, overweight and sedentary lifestyle.
Hormone levels, receptor sensitivity and the map of the same are due to:
- Sex
- Genetics in general
- Stress
- Hyperinsulinemia and metabolic syndrome
- Sedentary lifestyle
- Thyroid hormones.
Women wishing to reduce gynoid accumulation should therefore:
- Have a "balanced diet, low-calorie, rich in fiber, and with more polyunsaturated fats than saturated ones. Avoid the contraceptive pill
- No alcohol or smoking;
- Get a good rest according to your normal sleep / wake rhythms
- Consistently maintain a program of at least moderately intense physical activity.
If you are a man, in addition to preventing hyperinsulinemia, you will want to benefit from high levels of androgens, keeping estrogen low. High testosterone levels increase muscle mass and reduce fat. To maintain a happy androgen / estrogen ratio, males should:
- Do not smoke or drink (alcoholism lowers testosterone levels and increases intra-visceral fat);
- Carry out a short, intense training program (which stimulates testosterone and keeps cortisol in check).
This does not happen in the sedentary who is binging. Your fat cells receive large quantities of insulin often and for long periods, "defending themselves" by reducing the receptors for insulin. In turn, the pancreas, needing to lower blood sugar to bring it into homeostasis, again raises insulin levels.
Hyperinsulinemia and hyperglycemia - precursors of type 2 diabetes mellitus - worsen lipid metabolism (up to "hypercholesterolemia and" hypertriglyceridemia) and favor (in addition to being favored) overweight - also responsible for the increased risk of hypertension.
Also for this point, we will see how to remedy it shortly.
