While on the one hand there are those who recommend it to provide support to the abdominal muscles, on the other hand there are more and more specialists and health professionals (gynecologists and obstetricians) who advise against the use of this garment, except in particular circumstances. and situations.
In the course of the article, therefore, the characteristics of the postpartum girdle will be briefly described, the pros and cons deriving from its use and when and how this garment can be used.
and the tissues of the abdomen, hips, back, and buttocks of the new mother in the periods following the birth of the baby.In fact, after childbirth, the muscles and the overlying tissues present in the aforementioned body areas appear relaxed or even - as in the case of the abdominal muscles - separated (abdominal diastasis), giving these parts of the body an appearance that is often defined as " soft "or" flaccid "; the woman's posture itself may be affected by the previous nine months of gestation and appear altered or otherwise incorrect. In such situations, the postpartum girdle could prove to be a help, however, not all doctors approve of its use.
How is a postpartum belly made?
The postpartum girdle - also known as postpartum girdle or modeling girdle - is similar to a pair of panties with a waist so high that it wraps around the abdomen, right above the navel.
The lower part of the belly can have, in fact, the classic slip shape, or it can be "shorts". In the latter case, therefore, support is also provided to the thighs and buttocks.
The upper part of the postpartum girdle, on the other hand, is made up of a band that completely wraps the abdomen and back, exerting a containing and modeling action.
The fabric with which the postpartum girdles are made can be elastic cotton, or it can be made up of synthetic fibers of various kinds but forever elastic. Elasticity is necessary because the belly must be able to exert a certain pressure (not high, but such as to allow proper support and an adequate remodeling action). In particular, the most modern postpartum girdles that boast modeling properties have specific areas of targeted compression that exert greater pressure in certain points (for example, belly, hips and buttocks), allowing in this way to "flatten" the belly, reshape the contours of the body and give a more toned appearance, thus eliminating / reducing the much-hated "flaccid" effect.
and the buttocks which, due to pregnancy, have inevitably relaxed and / or separated. Please Note
Even if the doctor agrees to its use, the postpartum girdle should not be worn all the time, but only for a few hours during the day. Also, this underwear should not be used in the presence of pain. Finally, in addition to what has been said so far, it should be pointed out that the postpartum girdle must NEVER be used during the night rest.
Disadvantages deriving from the use of the postpartum belly
Despite the possible advantages that could derive from the use of the postpartum girdle, several doctors argue the uselessness of this particular item of underwear and, indeed, believe that it can cause problems and delay the return to physical form prior to pregnancy, in particular when it is used improperly and excessively. In fact, many believe that the use - especially if incorrect - of the postpartum belly can hide various disadvantages, such as:
- Excessively compressing the abdominal muscles preventing them from working properly, therefore, hindering their return to pre-pregnancy conditions.
- Increase the risk of uterine prolapse, rectal prolapse and / or the onset of urinary incontinence. A similar increase could occur due to the intra-abdominal pressure exerted by the postpartum pancera and following its prolonged use during the day and / or its prolonged use for long periods of time.
- In the presence of water retention, the use of the postpartum girdle could slow down its resolution.
Please Note
Many women are convinced that the use of the postpartum girdle is essential to regain the physical shape lost with pregnancy. In reality, this belief has no basis. The postpartum girdle, in fact, can provide support, yes, but it is not in able to restore the muscle tone present before gestation. To do this, in fact, it is necessary to start or resume, depending on the case, a gradual physical activity which, of course, must be adapted to the changes that occur over time in the body of the new mother. Clearly, sporting activity cannot be resumed immediately after childbirth, as the woman's body needs a certain recovery period before it can be subjected to efforts, even more so if she has undergone a caesarean section .
In any case, despite what has been said so far, before wearing the postpartum girdle it is always necessary to ask for the advice of the doctor, gynecologist and / or health personnel who assist the woman during and after the birth of the child, avoiding do-it-yourself. and avoiding following the advice coming from friends or relatives. In fact, although it is a simple garment, the possible presence of contraindications to its use cannot be excluded. Only the health personnel who follow the new mother, in fact, are aware of the patient's state of health and can provide useful information. both with regard to the use of the post-partum girdle and with regard to when and how sporting activity can be started / resumed.
