Editorial board Valproic Acid - Chemical Structure
In many cases, in medicines to treat epilepsy, valproic acid is found in the form of sodium valproate or magnesium valproate (ie in the form of sodium salt, or in the form of magnesium salt); at the same time, however, there are medicines that contain a mixture of "pure" valproic acid and salified valproic acid (sodium valproate).
Medicines based on valproic acid and / or valproate, in order to be dispensed, require the presentation of a specific medical prescription; but since they are classified as Tier A drugs, their cost can be reimbursed by the National Health System (NHS).
