Did you know that
In this recipe we used whole hemp seeds (not shelled): we recommend soaking them for a couple of hours simply to facilitate subsequent blending.
For hulled hemp seeds, soaking times can be reduced to 15 minutes.- Combine the softened hemp seeds, together with the soaking water, in a glass blender. Add a pinch of salt to taste and, if you wish, a couple of tablespoons of agave syrup. Start blending and slowly add the remaining water.
Please note
The suggested doses allow to obtain a medium dense hemp milk. To get it more liquid, it will be enough to increase the dose of water. Conversely, to obtain a greater density, it is recommended to increase the quantity of hemp seeds.- Prepare a large sieve and line it with a clean cloth. Place the colander over a bowl and pour the drink through the cloth: the hemp milk will be collected in the bowl below, while the okara (depleted seeds, rich in fiber) can be collected in the cloth. To facilitate dripping, we recommend to squeeze the bundle with your hands.
- The okara can be used to prepare bread, meatballs or biscuits. For further information, see the video recipe of raw meatballs with hemp seed okara.
- Hemp milk can be tasted natural or it can be used to prepare fruit smoothies or represent the raw material for the preparation of Hemp Tofu.
- Hemp milk can be kept in the fridge for 3-4 days.
Alice's comment - PersonalCooker
A vegetable drink definitely worth trying! The slightly astringent flavor recalls that of sesame and hazelnut. It can be kept for 3-4 days in the fridge: the duration is short because the milk is rather delicate, also due to the presence of omega three and six fatty acids. You can consume it like any other type of vegetable milk and with the okara (source of fiber) you can make meatballs, bread or any other type of recipe your imagination gives you.Nutritional values and Health Comment on the recipe
