Quarantine and isolation provide for the implementation of a series of behaviors and recommendations relating to sanitary hygiene measures, to the use of personal protective equipment (eg: mask, gloves, etc.), to the management and washing of linen and personal effects, and cleaning contaminated house surfaces.
For further information: New Coronavirus (or SARS Co-V-2): What is it? since COVID-19 was dying out, the Ministry of Health has redefined two very important concepts: quarantine and home isolation. Before looking at both conditions in detail, it is important to point out that both of them impose a ban on the person concerned to leave the house and, obviously, to move; therefore, both in quarantine and in home isolation, one must remain in one's home (or, as specified by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, in a dedicated facility in the event of an inadequate home).
Quarantine for COVID-19: what does it consist of?
Quarantine is the measure implemented for healthy people who have been exposed to one or more cases of COVID-19 (for example, it concerns the classmates of a COVID-19 positive child).
For the subject in quarantine, a periodic monitoring of his state of health is foreseen through a remote control by the operator and the public health services, all in order to early identify the appearance of symptoms attributable to the New Coronavirus infection. .
For COVID-19, the duration of the quarantine period is:
- 14 days from the last exposure to the infected subject (14 days represent the maximum incubation period of the disease, in the event that the person exposed to the patient had contracted the infection)
or
- 10 days from the last exposure to the sick subject with, however, the addition of a molecular or antigenic test with negative results carried out on the tenth day.
It is important to point out that all those returning from a foreign country must also observe the quarantine measure, even if negative to the molecular test after nasopharyngeal swab, and that, for these subjects, the behaviors to be followed are the same as for people in quarantine following exposure to a COVID-19 case.
Clearly, if during the quarantine the person concerned develops suspicious symptoms (fever, cough, etc.) he must notify the operator and the public health services that monitor his health on a daily basis and follow their instructions.
