Generality
Rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea) is a small herbaceous plant belonging to the Crassulaceae family.
Widespread in the subarctic and mountainous regions of all Eurasia, including the Alps, rhodiola is also known as the "golden root" or "arctic root".
In prolonged psycho-physical stress conditions, Rhodiola appears to reduce general fatigue and tiredness. In preliminary tests, rhodiola proved to be neuro-protective and involved in the "increase of longevity (this last aspect was not subsequently confirmed on the mammalian organism).
After ginseng, rhodiola is probably the second most widespread and used adaptogenic plant in the world.
