COLBIOCIN ® is a drug based on Chloramphenicol, Sodium Colistimethate and Rolitetracycline.
THERAPEUTIC GROUP: Ophthalmological - Antimicrobial
Indications COLBIOCIN ® Chloramphenicol, Colistimethate and Tetracycline
Given the typical antibiotic structure, COLBIOCIN ® is indicated in the treatment of external ocular infections.
Mechanism of action COLBIOCIN ® Chloramphenicol, Colistimethate and Tetracycline
COLBIOCIN ® is a medicinal product based on antimicrobials with different antibiotic properties such as to significantly expand the pattern of microbial species sensitive to this treatment.
In fact, Chloramphenicol is a bacteriostatic antibiotic, capable of inhibiting the proliferation of Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, blocking the 50S ribosomal subunit and therefore interrupting all protein synthesis processes; Rolitetracilcina as well as Tetracycline are endowed with a broader spectrum of action also active against chlamydiae, mycoplasma, rickettsiae and amoebae, also in this case supported by the ability to inhibit bacterial synthesis by blocking the 30 S ribosomal subunit; Colistin on the other hand, it is particularly active against Gram negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas and Haemophilus and owes its biological efficacy to the ability to easily penetrate cell membranes, thus exerting an evident cleansing effect.
The important synergy between the various active ingredients is therefore evident, adequately extending the effectiveness of action to different pathogenic species.
Studies carried out and clinical efficacy
COBIOCIN IN THE POST-OPERATIVE PHASES

Kurenkov VV, Smirennaia EV, Polunin GS, Makarov IA.
Work that demonstrates how the use of COLBIOCIN in the post-operative phases of keratectomy can significantly reduce hospitalization times, guaranteeing effective pain control and limiting the overlap of bacterial infections.
COLBIOCIN IN THE TREATMENT OF CHRONIC PURULENT MESOTHYMPANITIS
Vestn Otorinolaringol. 1999;: 49-50.
[New trends in antimicrobial therapy of chronic purulent mesotympanitis].
TsetsarskiÄ BM, Mikhalashvili AE, Makhlinovskaia NV, Koshel "VI, Faians AA, Semenova FS.
Interesting Russian work that tests Colbiocin in the treatment of chronic purulent mesotympanitis, demonstrating its excellent tolerability and clinical efficacy.
COLBIOCIN IN CHLAMYDIC CONJUNCTIVITIS
Vestn Oftalmol. 1998 Mar-Apr; 114: 32-4.
[Eye ointments eubetal and colbiocin in the treatment of chlamydial conjunctivitis].
Maĭchuk IuF, Vakhova ES.
Study demonstrating the efficacy of Colbiocin in the treatment of chlamydine conjunctivitis in 325 patients, underlining its excellent tolerability, given the absence of serious adverse reactions.
Method of use and dosage
COLBIOCIN ®
400 mg eye drops of Chloramphenicol, 18 million I.U. of sodium colistimethate and 500 mg of rolitetracycline;
1 g ophthalmic ointment of Chloramphenicol, 18 million I.U. of sodium colistimetate and 500 mg of tetracycline.
Always according to medical indication, it is recommended to apply one or two drops of eye drops 3-4 times a day or 3-4 daily applications of ophthalmic ointment.
Warnings COLBIOCIN ® Chloramphenicol, Colistimethate and Tetracycline
The application of COLBIOCIN ® must necessarily be preceded by a careful medical examination aimed at evaluating the prescribing appropriateness and the possible presence of contraindications to the use of the drug.
Prolonged use of the product could increase the risk of adverse reactions and drug hypersensitivity, while favoring the selection of antibiotic resistant microorganisms.
For this reason, the treatment with COLBIOCIN ® should be limited to the time strictly necessary to ensure the remission of the symptoms.
The presence of sodium sulphite among the excipients of the drug could increase the risk of allergic reactions and asthma attacks.
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
The use of COLBIOCIN ® during pregnancy and in the subsequent period of breastfeeding is limited exclusively to cases of real need and always under the strict supervision of your doctor.
Interactions
Although the systemic absorption of the active ingredients present in Cin OLBIOCIN ® is of little relevance, it should be remembered that the simultaneous intake of inhibitors or inducers of the cytochromial system can alter the normal pharmacokinetic characteristics of any absorbed portion of the drug.
Contraindications COLBIOCIN ® Chloramphenicol, Colistimethate and Tetracycline
The use of COLBIOCIN ® is contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to the active substance or to one of its excipients.
Undesirable Effects - Side Effects
The use of COLBIOCIN ®, especially when prolonged over time, could lead to the onset of local adverse reactions such as irritation, urticaria or angioedema such as to require the suspension of therapy.
