Shutterstock Levothyroxine - Chemical Structure
It is, in fact, a synthetic thyroid hormone whose structure and function are completely superimposable to those of the thyroid hormone naturally produced by the organism (hormone T4, tetraiodothyronine or thyroxine, precisely).
In order for levothyroxine to exert its therapeutic action, it must be taken orally. In fact, it is found in medicines formulated as tablets, capsules, solutions and oral drops. Some of these medicines can be dispensed at the National Health System (SSN) charge - with the possible addition of a ticket - as classified as Tier A drugs; others, on the other hand, are classified as class C drugs, therefore their cost is fully borne by the citizen.
