The four to grow at home starting from scraps
- Avocado
- pomegranate
- Celery
- Onion
There are two methods:
- With the plastic bottle: you cut a plastic bottle to be recycled in half, turning the part of the neck upside down and inserting it into the second half. It is filled with water until the level is at the limit of the lower part. Now place the avocado kernel leaving the widest part facing downwards and then in the water. It must be left exposed to the sun and, when the water withdraws, it will have to be topped up.
- With toothpicks: First insert three or four toothpicks into the core on each side. This will allow it to support the avocado seed, which will hold it over the water. Then fill a glass with water and leave it to soak (always only the lower part). Finally, expose it to the sun.
Starting from the seeds inside the beans, it is possible to grow it at home.
First, the fruit is opened and the kernels are detached. After squeezing the pomegranate, and keeping the seeds aside, a thin layer of gravel is placed in a pot, then some nutrient-rich peat in which the seeds will be buried.
It is covered with a layer of soil and bathed with water. The pot will be exposed to the sun and cold during the winter season to allow fruit to be obtained in spring. After about a month, the first shoots will appear.
- Soak the scrap. The base of the celery stump must be cut for about 5 cm, which will be placed in a low and wide bowl or bowl, filled with water. It is left to rest. The first sprouts will sprout within a week, right from the heart of this severed part. The container must be left in a bright place but sheltered from direct sunlight. The stem must be left in water for at least twenty days, taking care to change the water once every three days.
- Transplant into pots. Take a pot at least 40cm deep, 20cm diameter, with drainage holes at the base. Fill with a thin layer of gravel at the bottom, with organic soil and home compost.
Once transplanted into pots and grown, celery is continually renewed. It will be stored or in a bright area of the house at a temperature above 15 ° C.
antihypertensive, due to the presence of flavonoids, alliin and derivatives, it is also appreciated for its antibiotic function, especially at the gastrointestinal level, thanks to the prebiotic action of inulin. Not only that, it contributes to the prevention of atherosclerosis and the damage of hypercholesterolemia, as well as being diuretic and purifying.
The onion is easy to grow even at home: the key thing is not to throw away the scraps, that is the extremity.
- Leave the lower part of the onion to dry in the open air for about a week.
- Sow the dried onion directly in a pot with the bottom facing the earth.
- At this point, cover the part with soil.
- When the first leaves are formed, the onion waste must be removed, being careful not to break the new roots that have formed.
