Good ketchup right? Irresistible with chips!
Yes, but when we take a "look at the" label, the doubts begin: preservatives, thickeners, gelling agents and other additives. So I wondered if it was somehow possible to make ketchup at home. Can you imagine the answer? Of course yes! Everything can be done with your own hands!
So today I propose a variation of the ketchup sauce, prepared only with natural ingredients.
How do you say? How to thicken the sauce? We will use a natural thickener that hides in apples (in the peel in particular).
Did I intrigue you? We prepare homemade ketchup.

-
Ingrediants
- 400 g of tomato sauce
- 40 g of brown sugar
- 40 g of vinegar
- 100 g of apples
- 1 teaspoon of tomato paste
- q.s. of salt
- q.s. of pepper
- 1 teaspoon of sweet paprika
Materials Needed
- Glass blender
- Food cutting board
- Knife
- Small saucepan with lid
- Wooden spoon
Preparation
- In the glass of a blender, pour the tomato puree (it is advisable to choose the velvety one), the wine (or apple) vinegar, brown sugar, salt, pepper and sweet paprika. Add a teaspoon to taste. of tomato paste, useful for enhancing the beautiful bright red color of the sauce.
- Wash the apple well and cut it (with the peel) into large chunks. Add the apple to the tomato mixture, directly in the blender glass.
Did you know that
The apple is very rich in pectin, which is concentrated mainly in the peel. The pectin naturally present in the fruit favors the thickening of the sauce: in this way, we will avoid adding artificial thickeners.- Operate the appliance and obtain a homogeneous sauce. Inevitably, a thin layer of foam will form.
- Pour the sauce obtained (still quite liquid) into a saucepan: bring to a boil and maintain a low flame for about an hour, stirring occasionally and being careful not to burn.
- After an hour of slow cooking, the sauce will have thickened perfectly and will have taken on the classic consistency of ketchup.
- Allow to cool and serve as an accompaniment to chips or meat.
