"The dermis
The hypodermis is the deepest layer of the skin. It is also known as subcutaneous adipose tissue or panniculus adipose.
The hypodermis is a connective tissue, consisting of a scaffold of connective fibers, between which lobules are inserted.
The lobules are anatomical structures made up of cell clusters, called adipocytes, rich in triglycerides. A small amount of fundamental substance is interposed between one adipocyte and the other.
The hypodermis, which is richly vascularized and innervated, fulfills particularly important functions:
- it is the main energy store of the organism.
- It participates in thermoregulation, hindering the dispersion of heat from the body and generating it through the oxidation of triglycerides.
- Provides mechanical protection against trauma.
- Model the body figure.
- It affects the body's metabolism by releasing hormone-like substances.
