The cascara bark is used for the preparation of herbal teas used in the presence of constipation. The bark of the plant can be found either alone in herbal tea cut, or in ready-to-use blends in association with other plants that assist in its action or which give further properties to the final herbal tea.
The cascara, therefore, or rather its extracts are used in cases where it is necessary to facilitate the evacuation with soft faeces.
On the market there are different types of food supplements containing cascara extracts and indicated to promote the regularity of intestinal transit. At the same time, cascara extracts are also contained within several over-the-counter (OTC) drugs indicated for the treatment of occasional constipation.
Both within food supplements and over-the-counter drugs, cascara extracts are not the only ingredient, but are often found in association with extracts of other plants with similar properties.
It should be noted, however, that before taking any cascara-based product for the treatment of constipation, it is advisable to ask your doctor for advice, in order to identify any contraindications to the use of similar products.
